Special Pharmaceutical Benefits Program Available

The Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) wants qualified persons to be aware and make use of the Special Pharmaceutical Benefits Program (SPBP) for Mental Health. SPBP funds are available to assist persons with a diagnosis of schizophrenia with certain medications for individuals who are not eligible for Medical Assistance and have income of $30,000 or less. Covered medications include Abilify, Clozaril, Clozapine, Geodon, Risperdal, Seroquel, and Zyprexa. SPBP can pay Medicare premiums, co-payments, and deductibles for these covered medications. Benefits can usually be available within one week of receiving a completed application. The application form and additional materials are available on the SPBP web site at www.dpw.state.pa.us/PartnersProviders/MedicalAssistance/AdvocatesStakeholders/AIDSClozarilProgram. Applicants can call 877-356-5355 for assistance with completing the application form.
